Federal Minister for Information, Ataullah Tarar, has described the £190 million corruption case as a premeditated scheme rather than a coincidence.
Addressing a press conference alongside Senator Talal Chaudhry, Tarar revealed that a decision on the case was expected today, but the accused failed to appear in court, continuing their pattern of avoiding legal proceedings.
He criticized the accused for employing delaying tactics over six years in the foreign funding case and highlighted similar delays in the Toshakhana case, including frequent changes of lawyers and powers of attorney. He argued that such behavior is not typical of innocent individuals.
Tarar accused the accused of consistently using legal delays as a strategy to prolong trials and questioned why the cabinet had approved the £190 million case with a sealed envelope, bypassing public disclosure.
He labeled the £190 million case as the largest corruption scandal in Pakistan’s history, linking it to illicit activities such as the misuse of funds for the Al-Qadir Trust, diamond rings, and other fraudulent dealings. According to him, black money was laundered through a bogus trust, and the proceeds were used to rebuild the individual’s residence in Lahore.
Tarar alleged that billions of rupees were waived through fraudulent means and that those responsible received substantial benefits in exchange for state resources. He claimed that those involved were evading justice because of their culpability.
Senator Talal Chaudhry, speaking at the same event, accused PTI of giving corruption a false Islamic veneer. He alleged that PTI’s founding chairman and his wife had misused Toshakhana funds and avoided facing legal proceedings, instead fostering rumors of political deals.
In contrast, Chaudhry commended Nawaz Sharif and his family for confronting political vendettas head-on, noting that Nawaz Sharif returned from the UK to face court verdicts, unlike PTI leaders who avoided accountability.
