SHANGLA: Over 03 million saplings of different species would be distributed among farmers and 1.6 million to be planted across Shangla district under the campaign launched by minister for information Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
The tree plantation campaign launching ceremony was held at Bisham on the other day, where minister for information Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Shaukat Yousafzai was the chief guest. Divisional forest officer, Adnan Ali, Sub-divisional forest officer, Zahid Hussain and others officials were present on the occasion.
DFO, Adnan Ali, on the occasion told The Northern Post that about three million saplings of different species including Poplar, Willow, Robinia, Eucalyptus, Chir, Shisham and Dodonaea would be distributed among the people during the campaign.
He said the forest department had established nurseries in almost every tehsils, Bisham, Chakesar, Puran, Martung, Kana and Alpuri.
The DFO added that this time they have planed to distribute the saplings also among students in schools both girls and boys and 10 saplings would be given to each student during the drive for which he had sought data of students and received a list of 99160 students from male education department so far.
The DFO said that the saplings will also be distributed among the private school’s students, while 1.6 million plants would be planted in the different areas of the district by the forest department.
“For the first time we have set up nurseries of different fruit saplings that would be distributed among the farmers by next year as local people seemed interested in fruits farms which will help them as well as the country by economically,” the DFO, said.
He said, Pakistan was among the climate change vulnerable countries so people should come forward to plant saplings in their respective areas for making green Pakistan and green Shangla.
The minister on the occasion said that it was need of the hour to combat the climate change through massive plantation.
He said the provincial government was spending huge funds on plantation drives to preserve and enhance the precious forest cover.
