
On July 30, 2024, Masoud Pezeshkian was officially sworn in as the ninth President of Iran in a ceremony held at the Iranian parliament in Tehran. The event was attended by numerous foreign dignitaries, senior officials, and regional leaders. Pezeshkian, a reformist leader and former heart surgeon, won the presidential runoff on July 5, securing 53.7% of the votes against Saeed Jalili’s 44.3%.
During the ceremony, Pezeshkian took the oath of office, pledging to uphold the constitution and the principles of the Islamic Republic. The swearing-in ceremony was broadcast live on state television, emphasizing the significance of this transition. Following his victory, Pezeshkian received formal endorsement from Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei.
This election followed the tragic death of former President Ebrahim Raisi in a helicopter crash in May, prompting a snap election. Pezeshkian now has 15 days to present his proposed cabinet to the parliament for approval, marking the beginning of his administration’s efforts to address national and international challenges
