For the first time since last month’s ceasefire, the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) have withdrawn from positions in southern Lebanon, with the Lebanese Armed Forces (LAF) taking over these areas as part of the agreement, the IDF confirmed on Wednesday.

US Central Command (CENTCOM) commander General Michael Kurilla visited Beirut to oversee the transition. During his visit, he met with Lebanon’s Armed Forces commander, General Joseph Aoun, at a monitoring center in Beirut to discuss efforts for a lasting ceasefire between Israel and Lebanon, according to CENTCOM.

General Kurilla also observed the LAF’s replacement of IDF troops in Al Khiam, describing it as “an important first step” toward ensuring peace and stability in the region.
