Pakistan’s young cricket sensation, Saim Ayub, accompanied by Assistant Coach Azhar Mahmood, left Cape Town for London on Tuesday under the instructions of PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi.
Saim, 22, will undergo a detailed examination by top sports orthopaedic specialists in England following a right ankle fracture sustained during the second day of the final Test match against South Africa in Cape Town.
The injury occurred as Saim attempted a boundary save, stumbling backward after relaying the ball. Scans confirmed the fracture, necessitating immobilization with an Ankle Medical Moon Boot.
PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi described Saim as a “valuable asset to Pakistan cricket” and assured fans of the PCB’s full support for his treatment. He emphasized that “all possible resources” are being allocated for Saim’s recovery and is in continuous contact with the medical team.
Saim’s six-week recovery will see him miss key matches, including the home Test series against the West Indies and a tri-series featuring South Africa and New Zealand. His absence is a setback for Pakistan as preparations continue for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025.
The PCB hopes that Saim’s treatment in London will ensure a speedy and effective recovery, allowing him to return to the cricket field stronger.
