ISLAMABAD: Coordinator to the Prime Minister for Kashmir Affairs and Gilgit-Baltistan, Shabir Ahmed Usmani, presided over a meeting on Friday to assess preparations for the upcoming Kashmir Solidarity Day, observed annually on February 5.
The meeting, held at the Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) Council, included key officials such as Federal Secretary Kashmir Affairs and Gilgit-Baltistan Ali Tahir, Additional Secretary Kamran Rehman Khan, Joint Secretary Hamid Khan, Joint Secretary AJK Council Ali Akbar Khattak, and Joint Secretary GB Council Sudheer Khattak. Convener of the All Parties Hurriyat Conference (APHC), Ghulam Muhammad Safi, was also present, according to a press release.
A comprehensive plan for the events marking Kashmir Solidarity Day was discussed. Shabir Ahmed Usmani emphasized the coordinated efforts by the Ministry of Kashmir Affairs, Gilgit-Baltistan, and other relevant departments to ensure successful observance of the day. He reiterated the nation’s firm commitment to supporting the Kashmiri people’s struggle for self-determination, as outlined in United Nations Security Council (UNSC) resolutions.
Representatives from various ministries and departments, including Foreign Affairs, Information and Broadcasting, Interior, IT and Telecom, and Aviation, as well as agencies like Islamabad Police and the Capital Development Authority (CDA), participated in the discussions. Senior officials from the Education Ministry, National Heritage and Culture Division, Cantonment Board, and district management teams of Islamabad and Rawalpindi were also in attendance.
Focal persons from all four provinces, Azad Jammu and Kashmir, and Gilgit-Baltistan provided input on nationwide activities planned to honor Kashmir Solidarity Day.
