Usman Qadir, the son of legendary leg-spinner Abdul Qadir, has relocated to New South Wales, Australia, to pursue new cricketing opportunities. The 31-year-old leg-spinner, who represented Pakistan in one ODI and 25 T20Is, is currently playing for the Hawkesbury Club in Sydney.
Qadir’s experience in Australian cricket includes stints in the Big Bash League (BBL) with the Perth Scorchers and Adelaide Strikers, as well as appearances for South Australia and Australia’s Prime Minister’s XI. Despite retiring from Pakistan cricket in October 2024, he remains optimistic about his cricketing career in Australia.
“Cricket is my livelihood,” Qadir said. “I have come to Australia with future plans and am determined to explore good opportunities here.”
Qadir officially retired from Pakistan cricket on October 3, 2024, after returning from Australia four years earlier to play for Pakistan. Reflecting on his journey, he expressed gratitude to his coaches and teammates, saying it was an honor to represent his country.
His international career began with a stellar T20I debut against Zimbabwe, where he claimed eight wickets for just 60 runs in three matches, earning the Player of the Series award. During his peak, Qadir was Pakistan’s leading leg-spinner, briefly edging out Shadab Khan from the T20I lineup.
However, limited opportunities and personal setbacks led him to step away from Pakistan cricket and focus on a fresh start in Australia. Qadir’s move signals his determination to make an impact on the Australian cricketing scene.
