Pakistan’s wicketkeeper-batter Mohammad Rizwan achieved a significant milestone on Sunday during the first Test against West Indies, solidifying his place among the country’s top wicketkeepers. Rizwan now holds 107 dismissals in just 64 innings, joining Pakistan’s elite club.
The record for most dismissals by a Pakistani wicketkeeper in Tests is held by Wasim Bari, with 228 dismissals in 146 innings. Kamran Akmal follows with 206 dismissals in 99 innings, while Sarfaraz Ahmed has 182 dismissals in 104 innings. Moin Khan and Rashid Latif round out the top five with 147 dismissals in 118 innings and 130 in 69 innings, respectively.
Rizwan’s milestone coincided with a commanding performance by Pakistan’s spin attack, leading to a 127-run victory over West Indies at the Multan Cricket Stadium. The visitors, chasing 251 runs, were bowled out for just 123 in their second innings.
The collapse began with captain Kraigg Brathwaite’s early dismissal by Sajid Khan for 12 at 16/1. Sajid continued his dominance, taking the wickets of Keacy Carty (6), Kavem Hodge (0), Mikyle Louis (13), and Justin Greaves (9) to complete a five-wicket haul.
Abrar Ahmed contributed significantly with four wickets, including the dismissals of Tevin Imlach, Matthew Sinclair, Gudakesh Motie, and Alick Athanaze. Athanaze top-scored for the West Indies with a valiant 55.
Noman Ali also chipped in, removing Greaves for his sole wicket.
With this resounding victory, Pakistan leads the two-match series 1-0. The second Test is scheduled for January 25-29, where Pakistan will look to secure the series.
