LAHORE: On Sunday, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) revealed the schedule for phase 1 of the Regional U15, U17, and District U19 trials, which will be held across Pakistan from January 20 to January 26. The trials are open to players within the respective age groups, with no need for form submission.
In a significant change, the PCB has rebranded the Regional U13 and U16 categories to U15 and U17, offering young cricketers more opportunities to develop in their age groups. Looking ahead to 2025, the PCB plans to introduce Champions events for top U19 players following the Regional U19 camps and tournaments.
The selection process for the Regional U15 and U17 teams will commence at the District level. PCB-appointed selectors will conduct trials in each district/zone of the 16 regions, with a maximum of eight players selected from each district, except the regional headquarters, which will select 10 players in phase 1.
Eligibility for U15 selection includes players born between September 1, 2009, and September 1, 2012. For U17 selection, players born between September 1, 2007, and September 1, 2011, will be eligible. The phase 1 trials for U15 and U17 teams will be held from January 20 to January 24, after which selected players will move to their respective regional headquarters for final selection trials and bone age verification in phase 2. The schedule for phase 2 will be provided by the regions.
Once the U15 and U17 teams in all 16 regions are finalized, the PCB will organize the Inter-Regional National U15 and U17 One-Day Tournaments.
The District U19 trials will run from January 21 to January 26 across 113 districts/zones, with players born between September 1, 2006, and September 1, 2010, eligible. In phase 1, a total of 60 U19 players from each district will be shortlisted, while 90 players will be selected from the regional headquarters.
The second phase will involve the selection of players for the Intra-District tournament at the 16 regional headquarters. Final selections for the district U19 teams, except in the regional headquarters, will follow bone age verification.
