Emirates Airline has announced plans to set up a major cargo business hub at Karachi airport, driven by increasing demand for cargo services.
The airline has requested 90,000 square feet of space at the airport’s cargo terminal to accommodate the expansion.
Currently, Emirates dominates Karachi’s cargo business, transporting over 27,000 tons in 2024, far outpacing Pakistan International Airlines (PIA), which handled only 2,000 tons due to inadequate planning.
Sources confirm that the Karachi airport authority has begun the process of allocating the requested space to Emirates.
In a related development, Emirates has also advanced its sustainability efforts by partnering with Etihad Clean Energy Development to launch a large-scale solar energy project at the Emirates Engineering Centre in Dubai, showcasing its commitment to clean energy and environmental responsibility.
