Former Pakistan captain Sarfaraz Ahmed is set to return to limited-overs cricket as he joins Pakistan Champions for the second edition of the World Championship of Legends (WCL).
The veteran wicketkeeper-batter confirmed his participation by sharing a photo on social media, also tagged by the official Pakistan Champions account. The team’s social media handle further hyped the signing with a video captioned: “CAPTAIN. LEADER. LEGEND! Sarfaraz Ahmed is bringing his winning mentality to Pakistan Champions for WCL Season 2.”
The WCL is a high-profile T20 tournament featuring retired and non-contracted cricket legends from around the world. This year’s edition is set to be even more exciting, with some of the biggest names in cricket coming together for the action-packed series.
At 37, Sarfaraz brings immense experience, both as a player and as a leader. Under his captaincy, Pakistan clinched the 2017 Champions Trophy with a historic 180-run victory over India. He also led Pakistan to a record 11 consecutive T20I series wins, defeating top teams like Australia, England, and New Zealand during the streak.
The first edition of the WCL featured a thrilling final between India and Pakistan, with India successfully chasing a 157-run target. This year’s tournament promises even more intense cricketing action.
Set to begin on July 18, 2025, the WCL will showcase legendary cricketers from six nations: Pakistan, India, England, Australia, South Africa, and the West Indies. The tournament will kick off with Pakistan Champions facing England Champions at Edgbaston Stadium, Birmingham.
Cricket fans are eagerly awaiting the much-hyped India vs. Pakistan clash on July 20, also at Edgbaston. The knockout matches are scheduled for July 31, while the grand final will take place on August 2.
With Sarfaraz Ahmed joining Pakistan Champions, the competition is set to be even more thrilling, as he looks to bring his leadership and winning mindset to the field once again.
