Starlink, the satellite-based internet service owned by Elon Musk, has received a temporary No Objection Certificate (NOC) from Pakistan’s Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunication, allowing it to operate within the country. This provisional approval was granted following directives from Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, with consensus from all security and regulatory bodies.
IT Minister Shaza Fatima Khawaja highlighted that Starlink’s entry signifies the formal introduction of satellite internet services in Pakistan, aligning with governmental efforts to enhance the nation’s digital infrastructure. The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) will oversee Starlink’s compliance with fee payments and other licensing requirements.
Prior to this development, Starlink had applied to launch its services in Pakistan and was awaiting governmental approval.
