Bangladesh reintroduces ‘except Israel’ phrase on passports

Bangladesh has reintroduced the phrase “This passport is valid for all countries of the world except Israel” on its passports. This directive was issued on April 7, 2025, by the Ministry of Home Affairs, effectively reinstating the travel ban to Israel that had been removed in 2021 .​

The reintroduction of this clause comes amid heightened public sentiment in Bangladesh regarding Israel’s actions in Gaza. The interim government, led by Muhammad Yunus, has emphasized its commitment to Palestinian solidarity and has stated that the travel ban will remain in effect .
