USA Basketball Appoints Miami Heat’s Erik Spoelstra as Men’s Team Head Coach Through 2028 Olympics

USA Basketball has named Miami Heat head coach Erik Spoelstra as the new head coach of the U.S. men’s national basketball team through the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics, succeeding Steve Kerr, who led the team to gold at the 2024 Paris Games. Spoelstra, 54, a two-time NBA champion with Miami in 2012 and 2013, was confirmed by USA Basketball’s board on October 14, 2025, pending US Olympic Committee approval.
