Vaccination activity begins in Shangla tomorrow

SHANGLA: An extensive outreach vaccination activity is commencing from Monday across the 28 union councils of Shangla district to immunise children up to two years of age against 10 deadly diseases.

District coordinator for Expanded Programme on Immunisation (EPI) Dr Wajid Ali told reporters that despite Covid-19 pandemic they were going to start the 16-day activity in the district. He said pregnant women would also be vaccinated.

The EPI official added that 105 vaccinators, 327 lady health workers and 24 supervisors would take part in the campaign.

“The LHWs will cover 38 per cent area of the district while local volunteers and tiger force members would be engaged in the activity in rest of the area,” he said.
When contacted, district health officer Abdur Rehman told The Northern Post that the teams had been asked to follow SOPs and safety measures while performing duty keeping in mind the Covid-19 pandemic.

He said the teams had also been provided with safety kits, face masks and gloves in order to keep them safe from coronavirus.
