Australia plane crash: Swiss, Danish tourists among 3 dead

A light aircraft crash near Rottnest Island, off the coast of Perth in Western Australia, claimed the lives of two tourists from Switzerland and Denmark, along with the pilot, authorities confirmed on Wednesday.

The plane, carrying six tourists, went down on Tuesday afternoon near Rottnest Island, a popular destination located approximately 30 kilometers (18.6 miles) west of Perth. The crash left three tourists injured.

Western Australia’s Premier Roger Cook expressed his condolences to the victims’ families and friends. “This is undoubtedly a very difficult time for everyone involved,” he said during a press briefing.

The tragic incident unfolded in front of holidaymakers, including families vacationing on the island, Cook noted.

State Police Commissioner Col Blanch announced that an investigation into the cause of the crash is underway.
