Babar, Rizwan retain spots in updated ICC T20I rankings

Pakistan’s batting duo, Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan, have retained their positions in the latest T20I rankings released by the International Cricket Council (ICC) on Wednesday.

Babar and Rizwan hold onto their fourth and fifth spots with ratings of 755 and 746, respectively. Australia’s Travis Head leads the rankings, followed by India’s Suryakumar Yadav, who is now the second-highest ranked batter.

The updated rankings also reflect a significant rise for Indian batters after their recent five-match T20I series against Zimbabwe, which they won 4-1. Indian skipper Shubman Gill jumped 36 places to 37th after scoring 170 runs in five innings, surpassing Rohit Sharma (42nd) and Virat Kohli (51st), who retired from T20Is after winning the T20 World Cup 2024.

In the T20I bowlers’ rankings, Zimbabwe pacer Blessing Muzarabani moved up 11 places to 44th after taking six wickets during the series against India. India’s Washington Sundar and Mukesh Kumar also improved their ranks, moving up to 46th and 73rd, respectively. England spinner Adil Rashid remains the No. 1 T20I bowler, with South Africa’s Anrich Nortje and Sri Lanka’s Wanindu Hasaranga in second and third places.

In the Test rankings, England’s dominant 114-run and an innings victory against the West Indies led to several players climbing the rankings. Harry Brook moved up three places to seventh, Zak Crawley rose three spots to 13th, and Ollie Pope gained three places to 29th. Newcomers Jamie Smith and Gus Atkinson also made their debuts in the rankings at 75th and 52nd, respectively, following their impressive performances at Lord’s.
