SHANGLA: The district administration on Wednesday banned vehicles, including public transport, from plying on the snow-covered roads without putting chains on tyres.

A notification issued by deputy commissioner Fayyaz Khan Sherpao said some drivers of cabs and public transport were not using chains around their vehicles’ tyres, which was dangerous on roads covered with snow.

It said the section 144 was imposed in order to maintain smooth flow of traffic and save precious human lives.

The ban would remain enforced for the whole of winter in only the snow-bound areas, including Alpuri to Shangla top, and on roads in Yakhtangay, Ajmeer, Kandaw and Bilkanai.
