The Balochistan National Party-Mengal (BNP-M) has firmly rejected the federal government’s recent “hard-state” policies, particularly those endorsed by the National Security Council (NSC), during a multi-party conference (MPC) held in Lakpass on April 14, 2025. Presided over by BNP-M chief Sardar Akhtar Mengal, the conference culminated in a joint declaration and nine resolutions, all adopted with consensus among various political and tribal leaders.
The MPC called for the immediate release of all female activists, leaders, and workers detained under these policies. Participants emphasized that the adoption of such a hardline approach would only exacerbate unrest in Balochistan. They urged the government to resolve issues through constitutional means, referencing the 1948 Instrument of Accession of Balochistan to Pakistan.
The conference was attended by representatives from various political parties, including Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam, both factions of the National Party, Awami National Party, Jamaat-i-Islami, Pashtoon Tahafuz Movement, National Democratic Movement, Majlis Wahdat-i-Muslimeen, JUI (Sherani faction), Balochistan Traders’ Association, Balochistan National Party (Awami), and Jamhoori Watan Party.
This unified stance against the federal government’s policies highlights the growing demand for a shift towards democratic and constitutional solutions to address the longstanding issues in Balochistan.
