CM Maryam-led government allocates Rs20.7 billion for ongoing and new governance and IT schemes

LAHORE: The Punjab government has announced the relaunch of the laptop scheme for students and allocated Rs10 billion for it in the budget for the financial year 2024-25.
Punjab Finance Minister Mian Mujtaba Shuja-ur-Rehman, in his budget speech, mentioned that Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz’s vision was swiftly coming to fruition. He highlighted that within a short span of three months, the foundation of Pakistan’s first IT city, “Nawaz Sharif IT City,” had been laid.
The government has also launched free WiFi services for citizens in several areas of the provincial capital, with plans to extend this facility to other cities as well.
In total, the Punjab government has allocated Rs20.7 billion for ongoing and new schemes related to governance and information technology.
The Punjab government has proposed increasing provincial employees’ salaries by 20% to 25% and raising pensions by 15% in the budget for 2024-25.
Under the leadership of CM Maryam, the Punjab cabinet has approved a 25% increase in salaries for Grade 1-16 employees, a 20% increase for Grade 17-22 officers, and a 15% raise in pensions for retired workers.
Additionally, the provincial government has raised the minimum wage from Rs32,000 to Rs37,000 per month.
