French, Palestinian leaders call for urgent ceasefire in Gaza

On April 14, 2025, Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas and French President Emmanuel Macron jointly called for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza. In a phone conversation, they emphasized the urgent need to halt hostilities and accelerate the delivery of humanitarian aid. They also rejected any forced displacement of Palestinians from their land .

President Macron further advocated for the reform of the Palestinian Authority to govern a post-war Gaza without Hamas. He expressed support for a plan to empower the Ramallah-based leadership as part of a renewed push for a two-state solution .

This call for a ceasefire comes amid escalating violence in Gaza, where Israeli airstrikes have intensified since the collapse of a previous ceasefire in March. The United Nations has warned of a deepening humanitarian crisis, with hundreds of thousands of people displaced and critical shortages of food, water, and medical supplies .

The international community continues to urge all parties to prioritize the protection of civilians and work towards a lasting peace.
