The G7 foreign ministers, representing Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the United Kingdom, the United States, and the European Union, condemned the April 22 terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Indian-administered Kashmir, which resulted in the deaths of 26 tourists. India attributed the attack to Pakistan-based militant groups, a claim Pakistan has denied.

In their statement, the G7 emphasized that further military escalation poses a serious threat to regional stability and expressed deep concern for the safety of civilians on both sides. They called for immediate de-escalation and encouraged both countries to engage in direct dialogue towards a peaceful outcome.

The situation has escalated rapidly, with both nations conducting missile and drone strikes across the border, leading to significant casualties and damage to military infrastructure. Pakistan launched Operation Bunyan-un-Marsoos targeting Indian military sites, including air force bases, in response to Indian missile attacks on Pakistani air bases.

International actors, including the United States, China, and the United Nations, have also called for restraint and offered to mediate to prevent further escalation. The conflict has disrupted civilian life, with flights suspended and red alerts issued in affected regions.

The G7’s call for dialogue underscores the urgency of diplomatic engagement to resolve the crisis and prevent a further deterioration of regional security.
