Gene Hackman, the esteemed 95-year-old actor, was found deceased alongside his 65-year-old wife, Betsy Arakawa, and one of their dogs at their Santa Fe, New Mexico, residence on February 26, 2025.

Causes of Death:

Gene Hackman: Autopsy results indicate that Hackman succumbed to hypertensive atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease, with Alzheimer’s disease identified as a contributing factor.

Betsy Arakawa: Arakawa’s death was attributed to hantavirus pulmonary syndrome, a rare and severe respiratory disease transmitted through contact with infected rodent excreta. Evidence of rodent entry was found in their home, suggesting a possible source of the infection.

Timeline and Circumstances:

Investigations suggest that Arakawa passed away on February 11, 2025. Due to Hackman’s advanced Alzheimer’s disease, it is believed he may not have been aware of his wife’s death and continued living in the home for approximately a week before his own passing.

The couple’s bodies were discovered during a welfare check after concerns arose from a maintenance worker who had not heard from them in two weeks. Authorities reported no signs of forced entry or external trauma, and both deaths have been classified as resulting from natural causes.

Legacy:

Gene Hackman’s death marks the end of a remarkable era in American cinema. Renowned for his versatile performances, Hackman received two Academy Awards, two British Academy Film Awards, and four Golden Globe Awards over a career spanning five decades. His notable roles include portrayals in “The French Connection,” “Unforgiven,” and as Lex Luthor in the original “Superman” film series.

The film industry and fans worldwide mourn the loss of Hackman and extend condolences to his family and loved ones.
