India signs deal for 26 Rafale jets

On April 28, 2025, India finalized a significant defense agreement with France, signing a deal worth approximately ₹63,000 crore (about $7.4 billion) to procure 26 Rafale Marine fighter jets for the Indian Navy. This acquisition aims to bolster India’s maritime capabilities and reduce reliance on aging Russian aircraft.​

Aircraft Composition: The contract includes 22 single-seater and 4 twin-seater Rafale Marine jets, designed for carrier-based operations.

Deployment: These jets are slated to operate from India’s indigenous aircraft carrier, INS Vikrant, enhancing the Navy’s operational reach.

Delivery Timeline: Deliveries are scheduled to be completed between 37 to 65 months from the signing date, with full induction expected by 2030.

Training and Support: The agreement encompasses training programs in both France and India, along with comprehensive maintenance and support packages.​
