KARACHI: Heatwave Grips City as Weather Remains Extremely Hot and Humid
The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) reported on Friday that Karachi will experience extremely hot and humid weather in the next 24 hours due to the ongoing heatwave.
According to the Met Office, the maximum temperature is expected to range between 40°C and 42°C today, with the current humidity level at 75%.
Winds are blowing from the west at a speed of 18 kilometers per hour, and the heatwave is expected to persist in the port city until June 1 (tomorrow).
In the past 24 hours, the minimum temperature recorded in Karachi was 29°C. On Thursday, the temperature soared to 39.5°C with 63% humidity, following the hottest day of the year on Wednesday when the temperature reached 41.5°C.
It’s noteworthy that Karachi’s highest-ever recorded temperature was 48°C on May 9, 1938.
The PMD has issued a warning about the continuation of extremely hot and humid weather in southern parts of the country over the next two days, noting that continental air is prevailing over most parts of the country.
