Pakistan strongly condemned the assassination of Hamas Political Bureau Chief Ismail Haniyeh, who was killed in Tehran today. The Pakistani Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed profound shock over the timing of this act, especially as it coincided with the inauguration of Iran’s new president, Masoud Pezeshkian, attended by several international dignitaries including Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister.
In a statement, the ministry denounced terrorism in all its forms, including extrajudicial and extraterritorial killings, regardless of the underlying motives. Pakistan extended its condolences to Haniyeh’s family and the people of Palestine, condemning the incident as a dangerous escalation that threatens regional stability and undermines peace efforts.
Haniyeh was reportedly in Tehran for the presidential swearing-in ceremony when he was targeted. According to Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), Haniyeh and one of his bodyguards were killed when their residence was struck by an airborne guided projectile in northern Tehran around 2 AM local time.
