President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif have commended the valor and prompt action of Pakistan’s security forces in successfully rescuing passengers from the hijacked Jaffar Express train in Balochistan. They condemned the terrorist attack as a “cowardly act” and reaffirmed the nation’s resolve to eradicate terrorism from the region.
The incident began when militants from the Baloch Liberation Army (BLA) ambushed the Jaffar Express, carrying approximately 440 passengers, by destroying the railway track and seizing control of the train near the Bolan Pass. During the ensuing standoff, 21 passengers and four security personnel lost their lives. The military’s operation resulted in the elimination of all 33 attackers and the successful rescue of the remaining hostages.
Prime Minister Sharif lauded the security forces for their bravery and effective response, stating that despite challenging terrain, their high morale and timely action were instrumental in countering the terrorists. He emphasized that such inhuman acts would not deter Pakistan’s commitment to peace and stability in Balochistan.
This incident highlights the ongoing challenges faced by Pakistani authorities in addressing separatist movements and ensuring the safety of its citizens in regions affected by insurgency.
