The Senate Standing Committee on Rules of Procedure and Privileges, led by Senator Taj Haider, has issued a stern warning to the Punjab government for failing to comply with production orders concerning detained PTI Senator Ejaz Chaudhry. The committee emphasized that such non-compliance undermines the authority of the Senate and breaches parliamentary privileges.

Senator Chaudhry has been under medical care for a heart condition, reportedly admitted to the Punjab Institute of Cardiology after experiencing chest pain on February 20. Punjab authorities have cited his health issues as the reason for not producing him, stating that medical clearance is necessary before his transportation.

Senator Haider underscored the gravity of not implementing the Senate chairman’s orders, labeling it a serious breach of privilege. He asserted that the committee possesses the authority to take strict action against those violating due process.

The committee has directed Punjab authorities to present Senator Chaudhry before the committee promptly, contingent upon medical clearance and consent from his family. Failure to comply may result in further action against the officials involved
