Saudi Arabia is experiencing unprecedented torrential rains and severe flooding, affecting streets and neighborhoods across several cities, with the extreme weather conditions expected to persist for days.
The National Centre for Meteorology issued a range of weather alerts on Tuesday, including a high red alert for the holy cities of Makkah and Madinah in the west, as well as parts of the eastern region, as reported by Anadolu.
Riyadh, central Saudi Arabia, and the southwestern provinces of Aseer and Jazan were placed under a lesser orange-level warning, with residents advised to stay vigilant due to anticipated rainfall.
In preparation for the severe weather, rescue authorities, including the Red Crescent Authority, have raised their operational readiness. The Red Crescent confirmed that its teams are fully prepared to provide continuous ambulance services and rapid interventions, according to the Saudi Press Agency.
Saudi authorities have urged citizens to be cautious and follow safety guidelines, especially in regions under the highest alert levels. The Civil Defence service also advised people to avoid valleys, low-lying areas, and places where water may accumulate.
