The Kuwait Civil Service Commission has announced a three-day public holiday to mark Shab-e-Mairaj, the Night of Ascension, from Thursday, January 30, to Saturday, February 1, 2025.
This holiday honors the miraculous journey and ascension of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) and holds deep significance for Kuwait’s Muslim community.
Although Shab-e-Mairaj falls on January 27, the Kuwaiti government has designated Thursday as the start of the public holiday, creating an extended weekend for citizens. This approach balances religious observance with practical considerations.
During the holiday, all government offices and public institutions will remain closed, with regular operations resuming on Sunday, February 2. Essential service agencies will modify their schedules to ensure uninterrupted delivery of critical public services.
This announcement coincides with new regulations for government offices, including the introduction of evening shifts, which began in January 2025. The Civil Service Commission has provided clear guidelines to facilitate the implementation of these evening working hours in specific departments.
