SHANGLA: Windstorm followed by a heavy rain has damaged a suspension bridge connecting Kabalgram Shangla with Torghar over the Indus river at Kabalgram, suspending the communication of the area with Torghar.
Local residents told The Northern Post that strong winds was started followed by torrential rain on Thursday morning and remained for two hours by swinging the bridge which caused damaged it in several points.
They said, the bridge was broken at several points and its steel planks were fell down into the Indus river hence the area disconnected from the parts of Torghar though the area people used to bring daily use commodities from Thakoot through Torghar road.
Engineer Taj Akbar, a local told The Northern Post that it was for the sixth times the bridge collapsed due to its condition because the bridge was made with steel sheets and steel guarders.
He said, The bridge was being used by a high population of Martung tehsil Shangla and now disconnected from the rest of areas and nearby markets.
Mr Akbar said the bridge was built by local people on self help basis whenever it damaged because of the less interest of government and administration.
The locals people have demanded of the district administration Shangla and provincial management authority to take action on the bridge and repair it as soon as possible otherwise they would come onto roads for agitation.
They also demanded of the government for a concrete bridge over the Indus river for Kabalgram residents as the bridge has become a permanent problem to them.
