US will soon ‘take a pass’ if no Ukraine deal

President Donald Trump has signaled that the United States may withdraw from its role in mediating the Russia-Ukraine conflict if significant progress toward a peace agreement is not achieved soon. During a recent press conference, Trump emphasized his desire for a swift resolution but warned that the U.S. would step back if either party obstructs progress.

Secretary of State Marco Rubio echoed this stance, stating that both sides have only days to demonstrate a willingness to advance toward a resolution. The administration’s frustration has been exacerbated by recent tensions, including Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s accusation that U.S. envoy Steve Witkoff was promoting Russian narratives.

In line with this approach, the U.S. has paused military aid and intelligence sharing with Ukraine until a date for peace talks with Russia is set. National Security Adviser Mike Waltz indicated that the suspension aims to pressure Ukraine into negotiations, with the potential resumption of support contingent on progress in diplomatic efforts.

The administration has also considered a plan, presented by former Pentagon advisers, to halt weapons deliveries to Ukraine if it refuses peace talks, while warning Russia of increased military support for Kyiv should it decline negotiations.
