Former US President Donald Trump’s youngest son, Barron, has opted out of serving as a Florida delegate to the Republican National Convention, according to a report by Fox News.
The 18-year-old son, born to Trump, 77, and former First Lady Melania Trump, 54, will not represent Florida as an RNC delegate.
In a statement to Fox News, a spokesperson for Melania Trump’s office mentioned that Barron “regrettably declined” the delegate selection.
“While Barron is honored to have been chosen as a delegate by the Florida Republican Party, he regretfully declines to participate due to prior commitments,” the statement read.
The Republican National Convention is set to take place from July 15 to July 18 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, where Trump will officially receive the Republican nomination for the presidential race against Democratic President Joe Biden.
Delegates from each state will determine their candidate for the November election.
According to a list released earlier by the Florida Republican Party, several members of the Trump family were selected as delegates, including Donald Trump Jr., Eric Trump, Tiffany Trump, and Donald Jr.’s girlfriend, Kimberly Guilfoyle.
Barron, who spent his childhood in the White House during his father’s presidency, has been kept out of the public eye.
Moreover, Trump’s eldest daughter and former White House senior advisor, Ivanka, was not included in the delegate list.
