Bangladesh’s interim government has raised concerns over reports of a visa extension granted to former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, despite the cancellation of her passport on January 7, 2024, according to official statements.
The government stressed that visa validity typically ends with passport cancellation, responding to media claims that Hasina’s visa status in India, where she is currently residing, has been extended.
The International Crimes Tribunal of Bangladesh has issued arrest warrants against Hasina, who is facing 31 legal cases, including 26 related to loss of life and 4 alleging genocide.
These cases stem from investigations into disappearances and casualties during her tenure as prime minister.
