Karachiites’ first fast marred by gas outages

Despite assurances from the Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC) of uninterrupted gas supply during Ramadan, residents across Karachi experienced significant gas shortages on the first day of fasting. SSGC had announced a schedule ensuring gas availability from 3:00 AM to 9:00 AM for Sehri (pre-dawn meal) and 3:30 PM to 10:00 PM for Iftar (evening meal).

However, numerous areas, including Liaquatabad, Federal Capital Area, North Nazimabad, North Karachi, PIB Colony, Kemari, and various blocks of Gulshan-e-Iqbal and Gulistan-e-Jauhar, reported low gas pressure or complete outages during these critical times.

In response to these complaints, an SSGC spokesperson claimed that the company had not implemented load-shedding and that gas was being supplied to 95% of areas, with issues reported in only 5%.

The unexpected gas shortages have raised concerns among Karachi residents about the reliability of gas supply during the rest of Ramadan, as many struggled to prepare essential meals for fasting.
