Gas supply ‘improved’ in Karachi after PM Shehbaz takes notice

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has taken immediate action to address gas supply disruptions in Karachi during Sehri and Iftar times in Ramadan. Following public complaints, he convened emergency meetings with the senior management of gas companies, resulting in several measures to improve the situation.

The Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC) announced a 10% increase in gas pressure through sales meter stations to enhance flow. Additionally, gas distribution centers in areas with low network capacity will open 30-45 minutes before Sehri and Iftar to improve system pressure. SSGC is also arranging an additional 20 million cubic feet per day (MMCFD) of gas to meet rising demand. Control rooms have been established at head and regional offices to monitor the gas supply network daily, ensuring prompt resolution of low-pressure complaints.

Despite these measures, some areas continue to experience low gas pressure, which officials attribute to excessive use of compressors by domestic consumers. SSGC is actively working to address these issues to ensure a reliable gas supply during Ramadan.
