Tensions between India and Pakistan have escalated following a deadly attack in Indian-administered Kashmir. In response, Pakistan’s Information Minister, Attaullah Tarar, announced early Wednesday that Islamabad possesses “credible intelligence” suggesting India plans to initiate military action against Pakistan within the next 24 to 36 hours .

Background
On April 22, a brutal assault in the Pahalgam area of Kashmir resulted in the deaths of 26 Hindu tourists. The attackers reportedly segregated victims based on religion before executing them at close range. India identified the assailants, including two Pakistani nationals, as terrorists and accused Pakistan of involvement. Pakistan has denied these allegations, calling for an impartial investigation .

Current Developments
Pakistan’s Stance: Minister Tarar emphasized that any Indian military action would be met with a “decisive” response. He criticized India’s alleged unilateral approach, stating that Pakistan rejects India’s “self-assumed hubristic role of judge, jury, and executioner in the region” .

India’s Position: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has vowed to punish those responsible for the Pahalgam attack and has granted military leaders autonomy in determining the response. India’s foreign and defense ministries have not publicly commented on Pakistan’s claims .

Military Activity: Reports indicate increased ceasefire violations along the Line of Control, with the Indian army accusing Pakistan of unprovoked firing. Pakistan has closed its airspace to Indian aircraft, and India has suspended the Indus Waters Treaty .
