Karachi: Renowned Pakistani actress Mahira Khan has once again highlighted the inequalities in the Pakistani entertainment industry, stating that television channels are earning huge profits while junior artists and behind-the-scenes technicians continue to face financial hardships.
During a recent interaction, Mahira Khan said, “It is unfair and wrong that TV channels make so much money, yet the people who actually work on the ground — the junior artists and technicians — get left behind.” She stressed the need for a fair royalty system so that artists can continue to benefit from their work even after the project ends.
Her comments have sparked widespread discussion on social media, with many fans and industry insiders supporting her call for better pay structures and improved working conditions in the drama industry.
Mahira Khan, known for her powerful performances and strong voice on industry issues, has previously advocated for women’s rights and mental health awareness in showbiz. Her latest statement comes at a time when several actors have been vocal about the challenges faced by mid-level and emerging talent in Pakistan’s booming entertainment sector.
Fans are now trending #FairPayForArtists, urging production houses and channels to take concrete steps toward a more equitable system.
