Iraq proposes strategic economic ties

Baghdad, July 28: Iraq has proposed expanding strategic economic cooperation with regional and international partners as part of a broader effort to strengthen trade, attract foreign investment, and accelerate economic diversification.

Senior Iraqi officials said the initiative focuses on enhancing collaboration in key sectors, including energy, infrastructure, transportation, industry, and technology. The proposal aims to deepen long-term partnerships that can support sustainable economic growth while reducing the country’s dependence on oil revenues.

According to government sources, Iraq is seeking greater private-sector participation and joint investment projects to modernize its economy and improve connectivity with regional markets. Officials emphasized that stronger economic ties would create new opportunities for trade, employment, and industrial development.

The proposal comes as Iraq continues to pursue reforms designed to improve the business climate and attract international investors. Authorities believe strategic partnerships will play a vital role in rebuilding infrastructure, expanding manufacturing capacity, and promoting economic stability.

Economic analysts say Iraq’s growing emphasis on regional cooperation reflects its ambition to become a key commercial and energy hub in the Middle East. They note that successful implementation of the initiative could strengthen supply chains, boost cross-border commerce, and enhance investor confidence.

Further discussions with potential partner countries are expected in the coming weeks as Baghdad works to translate the proposal into concrete agreements and long-term economic projects.
