SHANGLA: Students at a seminar in Shangla have demanded equal rights for the female students in higher education and stressed on to end gender-based violence.
The seminar was organised with the title of “16 days of activism against gender-based violence” by the United States consulate Alumni Network Pakistan at the University of Swat Shangla campus here on Friday.
Students of the various departments of the university took part in the seminar as well as the activities assigned to them by the ogranisers.
The organiser, Abdul Wasi, a lecturer at the Campus, said that the seminar was part of a campaign launched by the United States of America against gender-based violence throughout the world to record a protest against gender-based violence.
A female student, Islamia from the English department, urged the government to ensure equal rights for both male-female in higher education and there should have no gape between the male and female in enjoying the education facilities.
Huzaifa, another student, termed the violence against women just because of the lack of education among the public and he could play a due role as an advocate to educate the rural areas people of Shangla, so that they stop the violence against women.
Doctor Tahir Ali, the university campus coordinator stressed on to say no to violence against women at the workplace and respect women everywhere.
The guest speaker, Saqib Iqbal urged the students to play their due role in the society by creating awareness among the public to avoid gender-based violence.
He had also conducted different activities on the students regarding gender-based violence in which the students participated enthusiastically.
At the end, awards were distributed among the students for their performance during the seminar.
