Former CIA analyst Sue Mi Terry has been indicted by a New York grand jury, accused of espionage for the South Korean government in exchange for luxury goods, including expensive bags and fine dining experiences. The charges against Terry, which include failing to register as a foreign agent and conspiring to violate the Foreign Agents Registration Act, were revealed in court documents from the Southern District of New York.
Terry, 54, who has extensive experience as a senior CIA analyst and served in various federal government roles, allegedly admitted during a voluntary FBI interview in 2023 that she acted as a “source” for South Korea’s National Intelligence Service for over a decade. The indictment also alleges that she received gifts such as a $2,845 luxury coat, a $3,450 handbag, and meals at upscale restaurants from the South Korean government. Additionally, she purportedly received $37,000, which was concealed through a think tank gift fund.
Terry has denied the charges through her attorney, Lee Wolosky, who described the allegations as unfounded and stressed her independence and service to the United States as a scholar and news analyst. Wolosky emphasized that Terry had been a vocal critic of the South Korean government during the periods outlined in the indictment.
