Peshawar, July 28: The Chief Secretary of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has sought to be removed as a respondent in the case concerning the Imran Rehai Force, arguing before the court that he has no direct administrative role in the matter.
During the proceedings, the provincial government’s legal representatives maintained that the issues raised in the petition fall under the jurisdiction of other departments and agencies, making the inclusion of the chief secretary unnecessary. They requested the court to strike his name from the list of respondents.
The petition relates to the formation and functioning of the Imran Rehai Force, a matter that has drawn legal and political attention in recent weeks. Petitioners have questioned the legality and administrative basis of the body, prompting judicial scrutiny.
The court heard preliminary arguments from both sides and sought clarification regarding the responsibilities of various provincial authorities connected to the case. Judges indicated that the matter involves important legal and constitutional questions that require detailed examination before any decision is reached.
Legal experts say the outcome could help clarify the extent of administrative accountability of senior provincial officials in cases involving government-backed initiatives. The ruling may also set a precedent for determining who can be made a party to similar constitutional petitions.
The court adjourned the hearing after directing the concerned parties to submit additional documents and legal arguments. Proceedings are expected to resume on the next scheduled date.
