CDF Asim Munir meets Iran’s Parliament Speaker Bagher Ghalibaf in Tehran

Pakistan Army Chief Field Marshal Asim Munir Meets Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf in Tehran
Tehran, April 16, 2026 — Pakistan’s Chief of Defence Forces and Chief of Army Staff, Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, held important talks with Iran’s Parliament Speaker, Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, in Tehran on Thursday morning.
The meeting took place during Field Marshal Munir’s official visit to Iran, where he arrived on Wednesday along with a high-level Pakistani delegation that also included Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi. Iranian state media, including Press TV, confirmed the engagement and described it as a significant diplomatic and military interaction.
According to reports, the two leaders discussed matters of mutual interest, regional stability, and ways to strengthen bilateral cooperation between Pakistan and Iran. The talks come at a critical time as Pakistan continues to play an active role in mediating between Iran and the United States amid ongoing efforts to revive peace negotiations and extend the fragile ceasefire in the region.
Field Marshal Munir was received by Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi upon his arrival in Tehran. His visit is seen as part of Islamabad’s broader diplomatic push to facilitate a second round of direct or indirect talks between Tehran and Washington, following earlier rounds held in Islamabad.
This high-level engagement highlights the deepening military-to-military and political ties between the two neighbouring countries. Pakistan has repeatedly emphasized the importance of dialogue, de-escalation, and regional peace in West Asia, especially given the strategic implications for security, trade, and energy routes in the region.
No official details of the specific agenda or outcomes of the meeting have been released so far. However, sources indicate that the discussions also touched upon the current regional security situation and the possibility of advancing the next phase of Iran-US diplomatic efforts.
Field Marshal Asim Munir’s visit to Tehran is being closely watched internationally as Pakistan positions itself as a credible mediator in one of the most sensitive geopolitical flashpoints of 2026.
