Work on Rohri-Karachi track to start in Sept

Authorities have announced that construction and rehabilitation work on the Rohri–Karachi railway track is set to commence in September, marking a significant step toward improving Pakistan’s rail infrastructure. The project is part of broader efforts to modernize the country’s transport network and enhance connectivity between key economic hubs.

The Rohri–Karachi section is considered one of the most important segments of the railway system, linking interior Sindh with the southern port city of Karachi. Officials say the upgrade will focus on improving track quality, increasing train speeds, and ensuring safer and more efficient operations.

According to railway authorities, preparatory work—including planning, budgeting, and technical assessments—has already been completed. Contractors are expected to mobilize resources soon, with initial on-ground work scheduled to begin in early September.

The project is likely to include track renewal, signaling system upgrades, and possible expansion in certain sections to accommodate increased traffic. Once completed, the upgraded track will reduce travel time, improve punctuality, and support both passenger and freight services.

Experts believe the initiative will play a key role in boosting trade and economic activity, particularly by facilitating faster movement of goods to and from Karachi’s ports. It is also expected to create job opportunities during the construction phase and contribute to long-term development in the region.

Officials have emphasized that timely completion of the project will be a priority, with strict monitoring mechanisms in place to ensure progress remains on schedule.
